Birth of Venus Set
Euphoria is a very demanding show for the art department, so as the art department assistant I got to be involved in some processes that went above the normal duties. The Birth of Venus set was one opportunity I had to help figure out the layout and layers of the angels and foliage, research and orders, and help construct the final product. The fact that set was in a pool had a lot of educational challenges such as considering buoyancy, how certain materials react to being submerged, and the unique reflection of light. Jason Baldwin Stewart and Nick Ralbovsky (Production Designer and Sup. Art Director) were great at sharing their knowledge while we all worked on this complex set.
Jacobs’ House Model
One of my tasks on the show was building models of the sets to be used by the director for planning shots. The Jacobs’ house was one of the more complex models, since it has multiple stories, has many removable ceilings and walls, and is one of the largest home sets we built.
High School Auditorium Model
For Lexi’s play the art department had to design an auditorium in order for us to have control over moving sets on the stage, and removing sections of seats for camera cranes. This was one of 2 models made for the planning of it all, and ended up being the final design.
Additional Work Examples
When we started season 2, there were a few things that needed to be updated, and this one drawing for the baseboards that I made for construction.
A model made for Cassie and Lexi’s bedroom with many removable rooms and walls, including a sliding section of wall behind the vanity.
For the play scene I found the vendor for a custom set of Cassie’s wings seen here. Writing this feels less impressive than it felt given the timeline and budget.
A plan and 3D model used to help Eugene Adamov recreate an existing bathroom into a set.
Assisted with many elements like this recreation of Frida Kahlo’s “Diego on my Mind” piece in the lover’s sequence in episode 4. Above is a drawing I made for determining the size of the backdrop needed to fill the camera’s field of view.
A simple 3D Model I made after helping scout an existing closet that would be used for the home Maddie babysits at. This was mainly used to help design inserts for the cabinet sections.
A design for a basement that never truly existed, but was good practice
